About   the   movie

Of all the music videos I've worked on, this stands out as one of my favourites.

Back in August 2008, a few months after completing The Gates of Hell with director Kel Dolen, he approached me to see if I was interested in working on this music clip. He had gone back to working at JB-HiFi and was working with Jake Oliver, the guitarist in the band Young Lovers. I agreed and we started tossing around ideas. We decided to keep it simple and do a straightforward rock performance video.

The band had contacts at Haileybury College in Keysborough and were able to lock down their performance stage as a location. They also knew a lighting guy who could help out. As far as other crew went, it was Kel directing and me shooting.

I remember rocking up to the location and thinking "holy shit, this school theatre is bigger than most of the rock show stages I've been to". The lighting guy (I wish I could remember his name) did an amazing job setting up a matrix of lights behind the band and programming them.

We spent the day shooting and lost count how many times we went through the song. we just shot the crap out of it. Every angle, every idea we could think of. By the end of the day, we had some great footage.

Over the next week, I cut the clip together. Other than some camera shake in the chorus and a couple of flash frames, this project has the least amount of visual effects work out of everything I've worked on. I did play with the colour grade considerably and settled for a nice grungy look that deteriorates of the course of the song.

The clip turned out pretty good and I think everyone was happy with it. Unfortunately a few months after making this, the band broke up.
