About   the   movie

In 2011 I worked with longtime collaborator Kel Dolen on his movie John Doe Vigilante. We began working on ideas, tech requirements, styles, and general conversations, long before anyone else was attached to the project. This was his passion project with a message he believed in wholeheartedly. When he eventually secured the finances for the project we were both excited at the prospect.

Production took place around Melbourne with an amazingly talented crew. However, what should have been an amazing experience was ruined by utterly incompetent producers, interested in catering to their own egos over any loyalty and integrity to the film.

Over 6 weeks I edited the film together and it was clear that it wasn't good and a lot didn't even make sense. Kel took a couple of weeks to go through everything and came back with a bunch of ideas. Over a three month period, we essentially rewrote the film using the footage we had and created something new, deeper and with greater emotion and most importantly, a story that people would care about.

But the dramas weren't over. With the producers came a visual effects producer who almost sunk the ship entirely with an ego the likes of which I'd never dealt with before and a complete uninterest creating a great film. Although you wouldn't believe that to listen to him talk. After taking hundreds of thousands of dollars, he turned in only a couple of great shots (ones he could use on his own showreel). The rest were less than shit and over half of them weren't even completed.

It took the amazing work of Rob Hamilton who worked with Kel and me on "The Gates of Hell" to step in and save the project. His work, as it always is, was amazing, especially when you consider the short timeframe he had to complete it.

This project was one of the final nails in the coffin of my film career.

This trailer was produced about a year after I finished work on the movie. I asked friend and amazingly talented composer Glen Gabriel to produce the music and I cut the visuals together.

The movie was released in 2014 and is now available on DVD and BluRay. In spite of everything against us, the movie actually turned out well and is work I am proud of.
