The Poet

After creation came the poet

And the poet said “Let there be darkness”
And the Sun fell from the sky leaving the night

And the poet said “Let there be pain”
And he curled up in agony as all his muscles, even his soul cramped

And the poet said “Let there be sadness”
And his heart swelled and his throat bulged as tears streamed down his face

And the poet said “Let there be philosophy”
And he looked up at the stars and wondered what had cursed him into existence

And the poet said “Let there be insanity”
And from the maniacal realms of his darkest insanity, the poet said

“Let the most savage and cruel of primates be given intelligence”
And civilisation began!
